The hypothalamus, which is the part of the brain that is responsible for sleep, fatigue, thirst and hunger, is the cornerstone of weight loss. All four of these components directly contribute to weight, which is why they must be regulated in order to sustain physical development. How are they regulated? Through the control of leptin.
The external part of the hypothalamus, called the ventromedial nucleus (VMH), is governed by leptin to control food intake in the body. Moreover, it is leptin that stimulates the nucleus, provoking it to tell the body that it’s hungry and that it needs to replenish its energy supply. Accordingly, leptin works in the hypothalamus to both augment and suppress food intake.
